Cloud Computing Practices for Scientific Computing Applications


Cloud computing provides on-demand access to computing utilities, an abstraction of unlimited computing resources, and support for on-demand scale up, scale down and scale out. Furthermore, dynamically federated infrastructure can support heterogeneous applications requirements. Clouds are also joining HPC systems as a viable platform for scientific exploration and discovery. Therefore, understanding application formulations and usage modes that are meaningful in such a hybrid infrastructure, and how application workflows can effectively utilize it, is critical.
